Homemade Individual Pizza Crusts

This recipe was originally developed to make pre-baked pizza crusts for quick and easy pizzas, but dough can be made up to step 7, then topped with your favorite toppings and baked at 500 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until brown and bubbling for a fresh, hot pizza straight from the oven.

Out of the Box FoodSM Pre-baked Pizza Crusts

Special Equipment: Pizza Stone or Baking Sheet, mixing bowls or stand mixer, plastic wrap

Serves: makes 16 Lunchable size crusts or 2-3 large crusts

Ingredients:

  • 1 packet yeast
  • 1 1/4 C warm water
  • 3 C bread flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Directions:

  1. Warm oven slightly to create a lukewarm environment for dough rising.
  2. Add yeast to warm water.  Mix and set aside for 5-10 minutes.
  3. If using a stand mixer with dough hook attachment: mix flour, salt and olive oil.  Add yeast mixture and on medium speed, mix dough.  Continue letting dough hook kneed until smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes)
  4. If kneading by hand:  In large mixing bowl stir together flour, salt and olive oil.  Add yeast mixture and stir to combine.  On a clean, lightly floured surface, kneed dough until smooth and elastic.
  5. Line two baking sheets with parchment and dust with flour.
  6. Divide dough into 16 even pieces.  Tuck edges under to make 16 small balls of dough.  Place each ball onto prepared baking sheets.  Cover with plastic wrap and place in lukewarm oven for 45 minutes to rise.
  7. After rising, remove dough balls from oven and preheat oven (and pizza stone or baking sheet) to 475 degrees.
  8. Roll dough out into 3-4 inch circles.  Dough should not be too thin.
  9. Place on preheated baking sheets/pizza stone and bake for 10-15 minutes or until lightly browned.
  10. Use immediately, store in air tight container for 3 days or freeze.

*To use dough to make fresh pizza straight from the oven rather than pre-baked crusts, increase oven temperature to 500 degrees, and after rolling out the dough (step 7), top raw dough with sauce, cheese & toppings and bake on pizza stone for 10-15 minutes or until browned and bubbling.

You say to Pre heat the oven and then place the dough In a lukewarm oven to rise before baking. Is the “lukewarm” oven the preheated oven at 475? Wouldn’t that just cook the dough? Sorry if I’m missing something just don’t want to mess it up lol.

Michelle, thank you for bringing that to my attention! Completely my error in the writing of the recipe. I have updated the recipe to reflect that the oven is preheated to 475 AFTER the dough balls have been placed in the lukewarm oven to rise. Thanks again!

I love this idea. Once they have been prebaked, what is the best way to make pizza with them? Just add toppings and bake again until melted?
