It’s our birthday! Yes, Out of the Box Food is is officially one year old and we thought it only right to celebrate! We’ve worked hard over the past year to read labels, shop smart and prepare fresh alternative recipes for our children. For those of us who have been together all year, I figured it’s time to treat ourselves. If you’re new to Out of the Box Food, we’re glad you’re here and that fact that you’re reading this post and interested in making healthy choices for your family earns you the right to celebrate too!
I couldn’t pass up this article written by Ray Isle at Food and Wine Magazine. Ray Isle’s calorie comparisons between popular fast food items and wine offered us yet another reason to steer clear of the drive-thru. I was very pleased to learn that by giving up those McDonald’s French Fries, I not only saved my family and myself from hydrogenated oil and TBHQ, but I saved myself enough calories to equal 4 1/3 glasses of Cabernet Sauvignon (not to be consumed in one sitting of course).
Anyway, whether or not you drink wine (and I’m not promoting consumption of a good Cabernet, officially) it’s a fun article and I thought we as parents who work hard to nourish our children deserved a little fun! Enjoy.

Next week we’ll deconstruct the McDonald’s French Fry. Think it’s just potato, oil and salt? Think again. Until next week…
Go on, advocate a glass of wine with dinner. It’s good for you:)
Thank you for the excellent website.
