Conversation. That’s the goal of Out of the Box Food. It really is that simple. I’m not trying to change the world (yet), or make people eat a particular way. I’m not here to judge or critique. I’m certainly not perfect about feeding my kids wholesome, unprocessed food one hundred percent of the time. I’m a mom, I’m flawed, and I want to encourage as many people as possible to start a conversation about the dangers of processed food.
I believe that by starting a conversation, we will ultimately begin paying attention to the food labels on packaged food. We’ll start recognizing harmful ingredients, and avoiding feeding those products to our children and hopefully ourselves. Let’s start a conversation amongst ourselves…and with our children. They’ll listen.
I’ve been having the conversation a lot with my friend Lisa, a mom of three boys. Now she has the conversation with her sons. A couple weeks ago, she told me she took her boys to the market and spent over an hour going up and down the aisle, looking at ingredients in the foods they usually bought. By the time they left the market, her sons recognized high fructose corn syrup in products and accepted that they would not be bringing any of those products home! They listened. My kids now bring me treats they want to have and ask me to read what’s in it. They listened.
The overall goal for Out of the Box Food is to start conversations. So instead of offering fresh recipe alternatives this week, I’d like to offer everyone the challenge of starting a conversation with someone about the dangers of processed food. Talk to your kids, make a phone call, send an email, send our link to a friend, post a link on Facebook, or visit our Facebook Page and suggest us to your friends. Anyway you do it, let’s see how many conversations we can start! We can make a difference if we start the conversation.
Out of the Box Food will be on hiatus next week but will return the following week with back to school alternatives. Enjoy the last couple weeks of summer…

I love sushi but don’t always know the best items to pick. If you are trying to find calorie and nutritional information for sushi, the best place I have found is SushiFAQ.com. The calorie page is found at http://www.sushifaq.com/sushi-calories.htm
