As I was pouring shampoo onto my children’s hair a few weeks ago, I decided to take a look at the shampoo’s label…after all, I read all food product labels, why shouldn’t I check out what’s in the products we put on the most porous organ of our body…the skin. Turns out that “Baby” shampoo we use is filled with artificial colors, carcinogenic Formaldehyde (see article) and chemicals I couldn’t even pronounce. Scary. So I began to wonder: Is there is a difference between ingesting artificial colors and chemicals and having them absorbed by the skin? Take a look at the ingredients in a bottle of Johnson’s Baby Shampoo:

When long-time client, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was diagnosed with non-hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1994, doctors publicly stated hair dye may have contributed to the disease. Lamas vowed to find a better way to achieve beauty. Today, after years of research, Lamas offers his own line of skincare and haircare products which are are 100% vegan, paraben-free, petrochemical-free and sulfate-free. Each product is formulated using exotic extracts, potent herbs and certified organic ingredients for healthy beauty products that perform to a professional standard.

I’ve been looking for a good natural shampoo for ages. Many of the all natural ones just don’t seem to perform very well, and the baking soda experiment was a definite failure. Love to ry this one!

I started buying natural soaps and shampoos about a year ago after reading that since skin is so absorbent, if you put it on your skin, it is just as if you ate it. I’m happy to hear about another product to try. Thanks.
Thank you for researching the products that we put on our skin. I have been concerned about that as well.

Love this idea…and so glad you’re drawing attention to this issue. Particularly as young kids (at least mine) frequently end up drinking at least some of the bathwater.

I have seen such a difference in how consumption of whole, natural unprocessed foods can improve the way my family and I feel both physically and mentally on a daily basis. I’ve been going through a similar thing with household cleaning products -trying to avoid the harmful chemicals and finding more natural, environment friendly, and healthy alternatives.
I’m very excited to hear more about this next week. We’ve gotten much better with the food we consume at our house, and I suspect skin care and hair care products should be next. Thank you!
I went through the same freak out a few years ago. It’s crazy what goes into kids shampoo and body wash to make it more “kid friendly”.
